Frequently Asked Questions
You probably have some questions about Learning Zone and how Diabetes UK uses the information that you give us. We’ve put some questions and answers together below to help. If you'd like to know anything else, please get in touch: firstname.lastname@example.org
Q. What is Learning Zone?
A. Learning Zone is Diabetes UK’s new online education service to help people living with diabetes manage their condition.
Q. What’s the purpose of Learning Zone?
A. We know that four out of five people don’t feel fully in control of their diabetes. And that sometimes it’s hard to get onto an education course. Or some people just prefer to learn more about their condition in their own time and at their own pace. That’s why we’ve put together information from clinical experts and combined it with the real experiences of people living with diabetes to help create a personalised service that helps you:
- Improve your knowledge and understanding of diabetes
- Find ways to manage your diabetes more effectively
- Discover new skills, activities and behaviours so you can take better control of your condition
- Improve your confidence and help reduce anxiety
Q. I'm getting an error message and I can't continue through Learning Zone. What can I do?
A. First of all, sorry you're having problems in Learning Zone. We're currently in a BETA phase, which means we're working to improve it. We've made a lot of progress in the last few months, and fixed a lot of bugs in the system. But some of the fixes might not have reached your account yet. If you've recieved an error message, there are a couple of things you can try:
- Update your Profile. To do this, click on your name in the top right of the dashboard and select "Edit Profile" from the drop down menu. Then select the "About my diabetes" tab to see your profile information. Check that all the answers are correct, change any that are missing or wrong, and click Update at the bottom. This should clear out any errors in your profile. Then simply return to where you left off and you should be able to continue.
- Restart that section. If Updating your Profile doesn't work, try restarting the section you got stuck in from the beginning (skip through the videos if you've already seen them).
Diabetes UK would like to thank Dr Andreas Schmitt for providing the charity with permission to use the questions he developed to enable healthcare professionals and researchers to understand how effective patient information or an intervention can be to help people improve their diabetes self-management. Q. Why does Learning Zone ask for information from users?
A. To deliver a personalised service, Learning Zone asks people to provide some basic information about themselves and their diabetes. This is so that we can present content that is absolutely relevant to you. It also helps us give information about the areas that you want to learn more about.
Q. What information does Learning Zone collect?
A. When you first join Learning Zone you're asked for your name and email address. We’ll also ask if you have diabetes, what type of diabetes you have, when you were diagnosed and how you treat your diabetes. At the end of registration, we’ll ask you for your age and your gender. It is important that we know these answers so we can make sure that the information we provide through Learning Zone is relevant, clinically accurate and right for you.
Q. How safe is my information?
A. The information you provide to Learning Zone is completely confidential. Diabetes UK takes data security very seriously. All of the information we store for our users is held securely on an encrypted database.
Q. How will Learning Zone use my information?
A. Learning Zone uses the information you provide to deliver learning content that is relevant, clinically accurate and right for you. We have a large collection of content to cover the needs of all people living with diabetes and when you provide some information about yourself, we can make sure we match the right content with you and how you manage your diabetes.
Q. How can I see my information?
A. If you have registered with Learning Zone you will have a Dashboard that is personalised just for you. If you click your name in the top right of this page, and click "Edit Profile" from the drop down menu, you'll be taken to your Profile page, where you can view and edit the information you’ve given us.
Q. How long does Learning Zone retain my information
A. Learning Zone holds your information for as long as you keep your account. When you delete your account, the charity will delete your information.
Q. How do I delete my information?
A. On your Profile page, in the About me tab, there is a button at the bottom to easily delete your information. This will also delete your Learning Zone account.
Q. How can I obtain more specific information
A. At the bottom of every Learning Zone page, there is more detailed information under the headings Useful links.
